Brainspotting: A Gentle Path to Deep Healing

In the journey of healing, some experiences live far beyond what words can reach. You may understand what happened, talk about it, and still feel it lodged deep within your body and nervous system. This is where Brainspotting becomes a powerful and compassionate tool for change.

What Is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a trauma-informed therapeutic approach that helps access and process unhealed trauma, emotional pain, and nervous system dysregulation by using the body’s natural ability to heal. It works through the connection between where you look, how you feel in your body, and how your brain stores emotional experiences.

During a Brainspotting session, your therapist helps you locate a specific eye position—called a “brainspot”—that corresponds with an emotional or physical experience held in the nervous system. Holding this gaze allows your brain to gently process and release what has been stuck, often without needing to relive the event through detailed storytelling.

How Brainspotting Supports the Nervous System

Unlike approaches that rely heavily on logic or language, Brainspotting works directly with the midbrain, where trauma and survival responses are stored. This means it can reach places that traditional talk therapy sometimes can’t.

Clients often experience:

  • A sense of relief or emotional release

  • Reduced anxiety and overwhelm

  • Improved emotional regulation

  • Greater clarity and calm

  • Increased connection to self

For many highly sensitive people (HSPs), this gentle, body-based approach feels especially supportive. Brainspotting honors the pace of your nervous system and prioritizes safety, choice, and attunement.

What Can Brainspotting Help With?

Brainspotting has been shown to help with a wide range of experiences, including:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Anxiety and panic

  • Chronic stress and burnout

  • Performance blocks and creative blocks

  • Grief and loss

  • Attachment wounds

  • Chronic pain and somatic symptoms

Because the body holds our experiences, Brainspotting allows healing to happen at a deeper, more integrated level.

What a Session Feels Like

A Brainspotting session is typically quiet, grounded, and client-led. You remain fully in control at all times. There is no pressure to talk more than you want to. Some people experience strong sensations or emotions; others feel subtle shifts. All responses are valid and welcomed.

Your therapist serves as a calm, steady guide, helping your nervous system feel supported while it does the work it already knows how to do.

Why Brainspotting Aligns With My Work

At Autumn Brennan Coaching, Counseling, and Consultation, I believe healing happens when the nervous system feels safe, seen, and supported. Brainspotting beautifully complements this belief by working with—not against—the body’s natural rhythms.

For highly sensitive individuals, caregivers, and those navigating anxiety, burnout, or trauma, this approach offers a way forward that is gentle, respectful, and deeply effective.

A Compassionate Invitation

You don’t have to force your healing or “push through” your pain. Your body already holds the wisdom for recovery. Brainspotting simply creates the space for that wisdom to unfold.

If you’re curious about whether Brainspotting is right for you, I would be honored to walk alongside you in your healing journey.
